Great article on spiritual desolation

This article from the New Jesuit Review is an excellent catechesis on Ignatius’ treatment of spiritual desolation as found in the Spiritual Exercises. Discernment of spirits is an oft-misinterpreted phenomenon, so I would encourage reading this article in order to get a brief but authentic interpretation (as far as I can tell, in my limited experience) of the nature of consolation and, moreso, desolation as described in the SE.
