Alumni Discernment & Volunteer Program 2011-2012

Dear friends,

On Friday, August 12th, Michael Palange ’06, Andrew Pavlik ’07, and I (Mike Williams ’06) moved into the Rutilio Grande SJ house at 2900 Carroll Avenue to commence our adventures as full-time Alumni Volunteers serving St. Ignatius High School and the surrounding neighborhood community. Since then, the three of us have been sinking our roots into the Ohio City neighborhood, getting oriented at nearly every imaginable organization within the school, getting to know out priestly and Jesuit Volunteer neighbors, and running off with a lot of free food!

The year ahead looks to be quite challenging and stretching but, of course, very rewarding and hopefully transformative, both for us and for those who we serve. I will be occasionally blogging about my experiences with the program (often referred to here as “ADVP”) here at Ad te levavi animam meam. Expect some substantial posting to begin over the weekend, once the flurry of pre-school orientations begins to die down just a little bit. If you would like to receive regular updates from the blog, you can do so via email or by RSS feeds by clicking the appropriate buttons down a little ways on the right hand side of the blog.

All three of us ask for your support in whatever way you choose to give it – prayer, free food, welcoming to the community, free food, opportunities to serve the school in special ways… did I mention donating food? Any help, especially that of a spiritual nature, will be greatly appreciated. I, along with my Ignatius brothers here at Rutilio, will always be looking to return the favor.

Pax,

Mike Williams ’06

One Response to Alumni Discernment & Volunteer Program 2011-2012

  1. Mike Williams says:

PS. This blog was once devoted to my philosophical ramblings, music reviews, and the like, and to an extent will continue to be so, along with the ADVP postings. Hopefully that’s not a deterrent to anyone. 🙂

And to be ahead of the curve, in case I need a disclaimer, anything written on this blog is expressly my own opinion, fruit of my own observation and reflection, and is in no way that of St. Ignatius High School, etc. etc.
